An Orthopaedic Surgeon is a surgeon with a subspeciality that looks after bones, ligaments and joints.
Dr Igor Policinski has further subspecialised and looks after general trauma, shoulder, elbow, hand, wrist and fingers. Furthermore, he has extensive training and experience in nerve injuries and microsurgery.

About Dr Policinski
Originally born in Warsaw, Poland, Dr Policinski has moved to Canberra with his family as a child. He attended Telopea Park High School, and followed on to Narrabundah College. He then moved to Warsaw and completed his Medical Diploma, at the Warsaw Medical Academy.
Upon returning to Canberra, he started an internship at The Canberra Hospital. He has spent 6 years at The Canberra Hospital training in various medical and surgical departments, some of which included General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his Basic Surgical Training and commenced an Orthopaedic Registrar position at The Canberra Hospital.
In 2009, Dr Policinski started the Advanced Orthopaedic Training run by the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and rotated through New South Wales. He gained great experience from multiple rotations in both country regional hospitals as well as major level three trauma centres in Sydney. In 2010 during his advanced training, he also completed a 6-month Paediatric Fellowship, in Portland, USA.
Upon returning to Canberra, he started an internship at The Canberra Hospital. He has spent 6 years at The Canberra Hospital training in various medical and surgical departments, some of which included General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery. After completing his Accredited Orthopaedic Training, he was awarded the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Fellowship (FRACS) and the Australian Orthopaedic Association Fellowship (FAOrthA).
Continuing his professional development, in 2014 Dr Policinski completed an Australian Orthopaedic Association Accredited Fellowship in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, with Dr Van der Rijt in Wagga Wagga, NSW.
Dr Policinski and his family then moved to Louisville, Kentucky USA, for one year. He commence an Accredited ACGME Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship at the world-renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery. During the course of the Fellowship, he had the privilege to work with respected surgeons such as Dr Kutz, Dr Scheker and Dr Tsai.
Upon completion of this Fellowship, Dr Policinski travelled to Tampa, Florida USA, where he completed a visiting Shoulder Fellowship with Dr Frankle. He then travelled to France to spend more time training and completing a Fellowship in Shoulder surgery, with Prof Pascal Boileau. In 2016, he returned back to Canberra, where he has been practising since.

Dr Policinski is a Fellow member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and is currently the secretary of the ACT Branch of the AOA Committee. He is also involved and has been a board member for past three years of the ACT Visiting Medical Officer Association. He has also recetly been elected for the ACT Australian Medical Association board.
